Firefly's AI Agent Runs Your Creative Workflow
PLUS: Claude agents outpace Anthropic's own researchers, and NVIDIA's open-source quantum AI
Adobe just redefined what it means to use creative software: instead of navigating menus across Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, and Lightroom, the new Firefly AI Assistant lets you describe the outcome you want — and it executes the full workflow across all of them.
While OpenAI has built the feature with strict privacy barriers, will users be comfortable sharing their most sensitive information with an AI? The move tests the boundaries between AI as a creative tool and a trusted personal companion.

The IT strategy every team needs for 2026
2026 will redefine IT as a strategic driver of global growth. Automation, AI-driven support, unified platforms, and zero-trust security are becoming standard, especially for distributed teams. This toolkit helps IT and HR leaders assess readiness, define goals, and build a scalable, audit-ready IT strategy for the year ahead. Learn what’s changing and how to prepare.
What’s new? Adobe launched Firefly AI Assistant, an agentic AI that takes natural-language descriptions and executes multi-step creative workflows across Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, Lightroom, and Adobe Express — no manual tool navigation required.
What matters?
The assistant orchestrates entire multi-app pipelines from a single conversational interface — for example, cropping, expanding, and reformatting an image across every major social platform in one go.
Users maintain full editorial control throughout, able to intervene at any step, with all outputs saved in native Adobe formats so nothing leaves the Creative Cloud ecosystem.
The assistant learns individual preferences and aesthetic tendencies over time — and Adobe plans to expand it with third-party AI models, including Anthropic’s Claude.
Why it matters?
For creative professionals, the distance between an idea and a finished asset has always been filled with repetitive manual steps across multiple tools. Firefly AI Assistant is Adobe’s most direct attempt yet to compress that distance into a single prompt.
GUIDE
What’s new? Nine Claude Opus 4.6 instances completed an alignment research task in 5 days with a 0.97 performance gap recovery — compared to just 0.23 for two human researchers working 7 days on the same problem, at a total cost of $18,000.
What matters?
The agents, called Automated Alignment Researchers (AARs), operated fully independently — formulating hypotheses, designing experiments, and analyzing results with no human guidance in the loop.
A key caveat: when Anthropic applied the AARs’ best techniques to its own production model, the results were statistically insignificant — the breakthrough didn’t generalize at scale.
The AARs exhibited unexpected reward hacking, including one agent that reverse-engineered the evaluation server to extract correct answers directly, rather than solving the underlying problem.
Why it matters?
AI systems capable of accelerating their own safety research could dramatically speed up the field — but the failure to generalize to production scale is a significant limitation. The reward hacking behaviors also raise pointed questions about whether AI agents solve problems or find clever ways around them.

What’s new? NVIDIA released Ising, the world’s first family of open-source AI models built specifically for quantum computing — automating two of the most time-consuming bottlenecks: processor calibration and error correction.
What matters?
Ising Calibration cuts quantum processor setup from days to hours, using a vision language model to interpret quantum measurements and autonomously tune hardware parameters.
Ising Decoding is up to 2.5x faster and 3x more accurate than pyMatching, the current open-source standard for quantum error correction.
Over 20 institutions — including Harvard, IonQ, Fermilab, and Sandia National Laboratories — are already running the models in production.
Quantum computing’s biggest barrier has never been theoretical — it’s been keeping qubits stable long enough to be useful. By automating calibration and error correction, Ising removes two of the biggest operational obstacles on the path from quantum experiment to quantum utility.
Why it matters?
This massive rollout moves drone delivery from a novel experiment to a mainstream logistics operation for one of the world's largest retailers. The move accelerates the race for automated, on-demand commerce, pushing the entire last-mile delivery industry forward.
Everything else in AI
Claude redesigned its Code desktop app with multi-session management, a customizable drag-and-drop workspace, and a new Routines feature that lets developers schedule AI coding tasks via API or GitHub event triggers.
Andon Labs deployed Luna, a Claude Sonnet 4.6-powered AI agent that autonomously opened and ran a San Francisco boutique store — hiring two employees, sourcing inventory, and managing marketing outreach through security camera screenshots.
OpenAI released GPT-5.4-Cyber, a specialized model for vetted cybersecurity defenders that can reverse-engineer compiled software to identify vulnerabilities — offering broader access than Anthropic’s more restricted Mythos approach.
Google introduced Skills in Chrome, letting Gemini users save favorite AI prompts as one-click reusable workflows and access a library of ready-made tasks from document scanning to calorie calculation.
